By SP's Special Correspondent

November 7, 2012: Strapped into a phase of deep modernisation, underscored by the medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) deal and several other high-value acquisitions, the Indian Air Force is all set to procure equipment and platforms worth $150 billion over the next 15 years, making it one of the world's leading buyers of military hardware.

This was mentioned by Air Marshal P.P. Reddy, DG (Inspection & Safety), while speaking at the inaugural session of Eighth International Conference on Energising Indian Aerospace Industry co-organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPA) in association with Indian Air Force in New Delhi. Apart from the MMRCA, the IAF's immediate acquisitions include six new flight refuelling aircraft, 22 attack helicopters, 15 heavy-lift helicopters, two more AWACS, 57 more medium-lift helicopters, a large number of light helicopters among several other infrastructural and backbone network-centric assets to support aerospace applications.
