Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh on December 8 held talks with his visiting Bangladeshi counterpart Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury in New Delhi on scaling up India-Bangladesh Naval ties.

The visit aims to "explore new avenues for naval cooperation" between India and Bangladesh, according to an Indian Navy statement.

The two sides discussed additional assistance to Bangladesh in hydrography and an increase in training facilities. Admiral Chowdhury will also be visiting Indian shipyards in Kochi, Vizag and Kolkata to assess possibilities of future ship acquisitions during his five-day visit.

"Various important maritime engagement issues related to operational interactions such as conduct of Bilateral Exercise, Port Calls by ships, Training, Hydrography cooperation, participation in various Indian Ocean Region (IOR) related events such as Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), MILAN 2020 etc would be discussed during the visit," the statement added.

The Bangladesh Navy Chief will meet with other top officers of the Indian armed forces and visit naval units in Kochi, Vizag and Kolkata besides shipyards.
