Defence Minister conducts multiple bilateral meetings in Russia

As Rajnath Singh completed his three-day visit to Russia, he met his counterparts from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

During the last day of his Russia visit, Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh met the delegates from various countries for bilateral conversations and to strengthen the military ties. After attending the joint meeting of Defence Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) members on September 4, 2020 in Russia, the Defence Minister met his Chinese counterpart for discussions.

The following day, he met the Defence Minister of Tajikistan Colonel General Sherali Mirzo and stated that he had an extremely fruitful meeting with Mirzo in Moscow. “Our talks included a wide spectrum of India-Tajikistan defence relations,” he said.

During his Russia visit, India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar met the Defence Minister of Tajikistan Colonel General Sherali Mirzo.

He then met his counterpart from Kazakhstan and said that it was a rather productive interaction with the Defence Minister of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant General Nurlan Yermekbayev. “We discussed ways to add further momentum to India-Kazakhstan defence cooperation,” Singh stated.

He also took the opportunity to meet Uzbekistan’s Minister of Defence, Major General Kurbanov Bakhodir Nizamovich. “I had a wonderful meeting with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Defence. Defence Cooperation remains an important pillar of India- Uzbekistan bilateral relations,” said India’s Defence Minister.

Following his successful visit to Moscow with multiple bilateral meetings with defence ministers of Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan during the three day visit, the Defence Minister of India left for Tehran where he plans to meet the Defence Minister of Iran, Brigadier General Amir Hatami.

After leaving from Moscow on September 5, 2020, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Tehran before coming back to India. Singh was on a transit halt in Tehran enroute from Moscow to New Delhi.

The Minister had a very fruitful meeting with Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami, at the latter’s request in Tehran. "We discussed regional security issues including Afghanistan and the issues of bilateral cooperation," Singh stated.

“Both the Defence Ministers discussed ways to take forward bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional security issues, including peace and stability in Afghanistan. The meeting between the two Ministers took place in a cordial and warm atmosphere. Both the leaders emphasized upon the age-old cultural, linguistic and civilizational ties between India and Iran,” the Defence Ministry of India tweeted.
