INHS Asvini conducts Outreach Programme on Mental Health

A Community Outreach Programme on Mental Health was organised by Department of Psychiatry of INHS Asvini under the aegis of the Marine Medical Society of India at Mulla Auditorium on 31 Aug 2017. The topic for the programme was "Depression : Let's Talk", which is also the current theme of World Health Day.

The programme was a pot-pourri of various activities targeted to increase the awareness on Mental Health issues in the Naval Community. Vice Admiral Ravneet Singh, AVSM, NM, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command was the Chief Guest for the function and was accompanied by his spouse Mrs. Deep Singh. Mrs Alpana Saxena, Vice-President NWWA (WR) was the guest of honour. Eminent Psychiatrist, Dr Harish Shetty started the proceedings by delivering a fascinating talk on the theme. The programme was also graced by Bollywood star Pooja Bhatt who, along with Mrs Manish Soni, a naval wife and yoga exponent, offered testimonies on their experience with depression. The programme format also included a mime by the Nursing Cadets of College of Nursing, which was highly appreciated, both for its artistic value and the message conveyed.

The audience was also engaged in a poster painting competition as well as a crossword-quiz. Active participation by the 1000-strong crowd ensured that the goal of information, education and communication of mental health issues to the community was delivered successfully.
